The logo for the 2004 National LCMS Youth Gathering is an "explosion of creativity" incorporating a cosmic burst of sun, planets and stars to illustrate that before the creation of the world, God conceived a plan of salvation "beyond imagination." Stars spin out from the logo as if animated examples of God's redeeming plan set in motion by His grace. Within the upper right arm of the star, three crosses remind the viewer that the universe experienced the movement of God's powerful love, which appeared unexpectedly on a cross. On the cross, God's Son died to deliver us from the darkness of sin depicted in the dark area below the crosses then rose again to make us His own, illustrated in the light burst on the opposite side of the logo.

The dove in the center of the star symbolizes God's Spirit given through baptism. The dominant color of the logo is green, symbolic of the Holy Spirit and of growth, the power to lead a new life in Christ and grow in faith and service. Green is also the dominant color of the Pentecost season of the church year when the Gathering is held.

The logo illustrates how God reveals the immeasurable riches of His multifaceted, multi-colored love. The sharply bordered colors and stars superimposed one upon the other appear like new windows, opening to us the thoughts of God's heart. Yet, there is a lack of definition in what the logo actually is, inviting the viewer to use their own imagination and beyond to interpret what it means for them.

Karol Bergdolt, design artist at Concordia Publishing House, designed the 2004 National LCMS Youth Gathering logo. It was inspired by the Gathering theme text, Ephesians 3:20-21. Dr. Jerry Joersz, staff member of the Commission on Theology and Church Relations and theological advisor for the Gathering, put together the interpretation of the logo.
